Meet Potapchik, a big, soft and cuddly teddy bear all dressed up for bedtime in striped pyjamas and a long nightcap. Everyone needs a first teddy bear – he will gladly become a best friend to your children, and perhaps even to adults.
A crochet pattern by Galina Astashova with step-by-step instructions, diagrams and photos. The pyjamas and nightcap are included; change the colours and accessories to make him a Santa suit, a fireman’s outfit or a Halloween costume.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

• Plain pale pink yarn for the muzzle and paws – I used YarnArt Jeans (55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 160 m / 50 g) split into 2 plies.
• Fuzzy yarn for the body and pyjamas – I used Alpina Baby (53% polyester, 47% bamboo, 210 m / 50 g): white (1.5 skeins for the body), blue, pink and yellow (about 1/3 skein each). If you have never crocheted with fuzzy yarn, choose any other yarn of the same thickness.
• Some black and white Iris thread for the nose and eyes.
• Hooks 1 mm (muzzle, nose and eyes) and 2 mm (body and pyjamas).
• Stuffing; black glass eyes with loops for the pupils (or black half-round buttons).
• Sewing needle and sewing thread in matching colours to sew on the muzzle, nose, ears and eyes; a tapestry needle for sculpting.
• One iron-on patch for the pyjamas.
