A plump, fluffy little sparrow with a chestnut cap and wings, a soft grey tummy, big soulful eyes, cosy blue boots and a fluffy white trapper hat with a knitted striped scarf. About 25 cm tall – a heart-warming winter friend and a lovely gift for bird lovers.
A crochet pattern by Julia Ogol with step-by-step instructions, tips and photos. The bird is crocheted with fluffy yarn and brushed up; a wire frame lets him stand and pose. The hat is crocheted and the scarf is knitted (both optional, instructions included).

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

• Main yarn – I used “Lotus Travka Stretch” by Kamteks (70% acrylic, 28% polyamide, 2% lycra, 80 m / 50 g): about 100 g of grey and 100 g of brown; any moderately fluffy yarn will do.
• Yarn for the socks and boots – I used “Soufflé” by Moscow Yarn Company (100% acrylic, 292 m / 100 g) in white, brown, beige and blue.
• Matching crochet hook – I used 3 mm for all yarns.
• A pair of ready-made eyes (I used 16 mm half beads) and a piece of white felt for the whites of the eyes.
• Grey or black polymer clay and varnish for the beak, or a ready-made beak.
• Single core copper PVC electrical wire – about 240 cm (94.5 inches), 2–2.5 mm thick; optional: fabric tape about 1 cm wide for the wire ends.
• Strong thread for needle sculpting, transparent glue, stuffing, scissors and a brush or Velcro to brush up the toy; optional: material for tinting.
• Hat and scarf (optional): any yarn (I used white “Soufflé” and a little fluffy Nako “Paris”), a 3 mm crochet hook for the hat and 4 mm knitting needles for the scarf.
