A cheerful little green snake with big googly eyes, a pink forked tongue and a bendy wire body that coils around anything: use it as a cable tie, a napkin ring, a plant decoration, a lucky charm or a Christmas tree ornament. The pattern includes six hats to dress it up – a Christmas tree, a bauble, Santa, a snowman, a snowgirl and a snowflake – perfect for the Year of the Snake.

• Sport weight yarn – I used YarnArt “Jeans” (55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 160 m / 50 g): green for the body, white for the eyes and a little pink for the tongue. You can use any other yarn you like.
• For the hats (same yarn): dark green and red (Christmas tree); any colour plus white and small white beads (bauble); red, white and a little fluffy yarn (Santa); white, orange and brown (snowman); blue, yellow and white (snowgirl); white and beads (snowflake).
• Steel crochet hook 2.25 mm.
• Eyes – 2 half beads 6 mm per snake – and glue.
• Wire 2.5 mm in diameter – about 25 cm (10 inches) for inside the body.
• Stuffing and a tapestry needle.
