Elsa is a friendly forest dragon – a Hungarian Horntail with a long graceful neck and tail, little horns, slender poseable legs and huge crocheted wings with beaded veins. Made from a softly glittering yarn, she stands, walks and spreads her wings thanks to a wire frame.
A crochet pattern by Alexandra Simba with step-by-step instructions and photos (41 pages), with the testers’ dragons for inspiration and a print-friendly version.

• Smooth, not too stretchy yarn with a glossy strand – I used Alize Sal Sim (95% acrylic, 5% metallic, 460 m / 100 g), about half a skein.
• Embroidery thread or Iris cotton for the wings and horns – I used Vita Pelican (100% mercerized cotton, 330 m / 50 g), about half a skein; or two A4 sheets of felt.
• 1.5 mm copper wire (the core of a 3x1.5 electric cable) – about 3 m, white fabric plaster or insulation tape, stuffing and two 6 mm toy eyes or beads.
• Optional: Czech and Japanese seed beads for the wing veins, horns and claws (or polymer clay), dry pastels and a black ballpoint pen for tinting, transparent glue.
• 1.25 mm and 1 mm crochet hooks, wire cutter, scissors and a hard synthetic brush.
