SAM the deep-water angler fish: a big-mouthed, toothy monkfish with fringed fins, beaded spots and a real glowing light bulb on its fishing rod – a funny toy and a night lamp for reading in the dark.
A crochet pattern by Alexandra Simba with step-by-step instructions and photos (41 pages). A wire frame shapes the fins and the rod; the bulb is a ready-made keyring light.

• Smooth, not very stretchy yarn – I used Vita Brilliant Print and Vita Brilliant (45% wool, 55% acrylic, 380 m / 100 g): about 1.5 skeins of multicolour and half a skein of solid colour.
• Cotton embroidery floss or Iris yarn (e.g. Vita Pelican, 330 m / 50 g) in white for the eyes and teeth (or polymer clay), and yellow, silver-grey and black leftovers for the bulb.
• A keyring light bulb (search “keyring lightbulb”) – order two in case one is broken.
• Copper wire, stuffing, beads and a matching crochet hook.
