Alejandro is a fluffy, characterful little bull with a big soft muzzle, curly horns, a ring in his nose, neat clay hooves and a long tasselled tail. A wire frame inside lets him stand firmly on four legs, and needle sculpting and gentle tinting bring his face to life. He is only about 10 cm tall – a wonderful gift for the Year of the Ox or for anyone who loves cows and bulls.

A crochet pattern by Svetlana Pertseva with step-by-step instructions, tips and photos. Only the bull is included (the Cow Anfisa is a separate pattern).

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

--------------------------------------

•    Crochet hook 1.5 mm, or any other suitable size for the selected yarn.

•    Main yarn – any fluffy or textured yarn. I used one strand (out of four) of “Koala” (600 m / 100 g) together with Alize “Kid Royal” (62% mohair, 38% polyamide, 250 m / 25 g), about 10 g of each.

•    Additional yarn for the muzzle, horns and hooves – I used “Lidia” by PS Semenovskaya (50% wool, 50% acrylic, 1613 m / 100 g): two strands for the muzzle and horns (10 g), one strand for the hooves (5 g).

•    2 black ready-made eyes or black beads 2 mm across and a small piece of white polymer clay for the whites of the eyes (or safety eyes 2–3 mm).

•    Beige polymer clay if you prefer not to crochet the hooves and horns.

•    Copper wire 0.8 mm in diameter or nichrome wire 0.5 mm (120 cm) and adhesive fabric tape about 1 cm wide for the wire ends.

•    Stuffing, a tapestry needle, strong thread for needle sculpting and pliers.
